Software built to
fit the business.

I take on a small number of client projects: building software that doesn't exist off the shelf, and putting AI to work inside systems that already do. Remote-first and working with businesses across the UK.

The work on this site is the portfolio — real systems, in production, written up honestly including the parts that went wrong. That's the best evidence of how a project with me goes.

Custom software engineering

Building the thing you can't buy off the shelf — internal tools, customer-facing applications, and the integrations that hold them together. Specified, built, tested and handed over with documentation, not left as a prototype.

  • A working, deployed application you own outright
  • Source, documentation and handover notes
  • Tests around the parts that would hurt to break
  • A deployment path your team can run without me

Suited to: A process held together by spreadsheets and goodwill, or a product idea that needs building properly the first time.

AI integration & automation

Putting language models to work inside systems that already exist: retrieval over your own documents, automated document handling, and workflows that remove manual steps. With the unglamorous parts — evaluation, cost ceilings, and knowing when the model is wrong — treated as part of the job.

  • An AI feature wired into your existing stack
  • Evaluation harness so quality is measured, not assumed
  • Cost controls and fallbacks, so spend stays bounded
  • Logging that makes failures visible before users report them

Suited to: High-volume manual review, document-heavy processes, or an AI pilot that proved the idea but never reached production.

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

  1. 01

    A conversation

Half an hour on what you're trying to achieve and what's in the way. Free, and if it isn't a fit I'll say so and point you elsewhere.

  2. 02

    A written proposal

Scope, approach, a fixed price where the work allows it, and what's explicitly out of scope. No hourly estimates that drift.

  3. 03

    Build, in the open

Regular check-ins and working software you can look at as it goes, rather than a reveal at the end.

  4. 04

    Handover

Deployed, documented, and yours. Ongoing support is available but never assumed.

Got something in mind?

Tell me roughly what you're trying to do and when you need it. I'll come back with whether it's a fit, an outline, and a price — or an honest no.
